Contextual factors play an integral role in the learning process. Teachers who recognize these factors equip themselves to meet the learning needs of diverse student populations. Additionally, by modifying instruction or procedures to address all of the students’ contextual factors, they will have an increased likelihood of academic success.
Create an 8-10 slide digital presentation for a teacher professional development on how contextual factors affect student learning.
Include the following:
Explain how social interactions, culture, society, and technology can positively and negatively affect student development and readiness for learning.
List instructional strategies and tools that could be used to address each contextual factor (social interactions, culture, society, and technology) during classroom instruction. Example: grouping strategies for social interactions.
Discuss two specific examples of how you would modify classroom instruction to address any of these four contextual factors (e.g., you provide an internet-based family activity, but several of your students’ families do not have internet access at home). Discuss how you would modify each activity to meet student needs and ensure growth in learning.

For your initial post this week, your assignment is to share a paragraph or short section from any text you would like—and you should be creative. It can be from a cookbook, from a magazine article, or from a manual. In your post, share the selection and make sure you properly cite it according to APA formatting guidelines.

Your response this week is two parts.
First, do an analysis of Lara Adair’s speech. Do you agree with what she says? Does it match what you read about in the Memoir chapter? Can you think of a memoir (whether book or movie) that aligns with or diverges from what she says? Remember to analyze and not just summarize.
Second, after reading the Review chapter on pages 93-104 and reading the “The Lego Movie” review on pages 105-106, do a review of one of your favorite books, movies, video games, or TV shows. DO NOT JUST SUMMARIZE. Make sure you apply the information from the chapter as you analyze and review.
Your analysis should be organized, use transitions, and have a thesis.
Submission: Your response must be a minimum of 250 words. Although I suggest you write and edit the post in Word, copy your response directly into your discussion reply so fellow students can easily read it without needing to open an attachment.

The Assignment: This assignment requires that you analyze one of the songs at the bottom of this assignment sheet. Remember that an analysis requires you to investigate, minutely, various elements of the song. You should use your investigations to make a claim about the social and/or cultural impact of your song. For example, you could discuss any combination among the song’s use of tone, mood, prospective audience, or genre to make observations about the music and lyrics (if there are lyrics) of these songs.
Turning in the Assignment: Any use of first or second person will reduce your grade by one point per infraction. Avoid “to be” verbs and vague language. Remember to keep in mind various rejoinders to your argument and preemptively thwart them.
