Music Analysis
The Assignment: This assignment requires that you analyze one of the songs at the bottom of this assignment sheet. Remember that an analysis requires you to investigate, minutely, various elements of the song. You should use your investigations to make a claim about the social and/or cultural impact of your song. For example, you could discuss any combination among the song’s use of tone, mood, prospective audience, or genre to make observations about the music and lyrics (if there are lyrics) of these songs.
Turning in the Assignment: Any use of first or second person will reduce your grade by one point per infraction. Avoid “to be” verbs and vague language. Remember to keep in mind various rejoinders to your argument and preemptively thwart them. While your paper does not require any outside research, you must use MLA format conventions (i.e. double spacing, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, one-inch margins. No title page is required.
